Yesterday morning, the construction of Xuwei Channel began. It is the second phase of 300,000 ton channel project of Lianyungang Port, which is a milestone in the port history of Jiangsu. After the first and second phases of Lianyungang port channel had been put into operation, the 300,000 ton channel closure project with a total investment of 12.5 billion yuan was started. After the completion of the project in 2022, Lianyungang port will have consolidated the main camp position of the "national team" by virtue of the "basic hardware" of the channel. It is of great significance for promoting the agglomeration and development of coastal industries in Jiangsu, improving the coastal development, serving the central and western regions and promoting the construction of "one belt and one road" intersection.

At 11 a.m., it was rainy in Xuwei port area, while the raging sea breeze did not stop the enthusiasm of the project department. At the site of cofferdam dredging and hydraulic filling at the seaside, the coarse pipeline extending from the sea to the land will lift the seabed sediment high and fill it into the cofferdam. The scene is spectacular. Based on the axis of the first stage channel, Xuwei Channel of the second stage project will be further deepened, widened and extended to meet the requirement of directly entering and leaving 300,000 tonnage ships when the port is in tide.

It is reported that the total investment of Xuwei Channel under construction is about 3.2 billion yuan, with a total length of 17.6 kilometers, including supporting dike and anchorage works. The navigable width is 350-380m, and the navigable depth is 24.7m. The design meets the requirement of 300,000 ton oil tanker's single line navigation by tide. The total amount of dredging works is about 90 million cubic meters. It is planned that 500 million yuan will be invested and 16 million cubic meters of waterways will be dredged this year.
