Whole Line of High-speed Railway in Southern Jiangsu Will Be Started within This Year

Recently, ¡°The bidding announcement for supervision of engineering geological survey of new Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo railway¡± was released in Nanjing public resources trading center. The early stage work of Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo railway connecting Northern Jiangsu to Southern Jiangsu means significant progress. According to the information from the feasibility study review meeting of Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo railway held recently, Suzhou is speeding up the preliminary work and striving to start construction of the whole line of Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo railway within the year.

Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo railway is an important part of the coastal railway passenger transport channel, which is the main skeleton of the national high-speed railway network. The project starts from Nantong, passes through Suzhou and Jiaxing to Ningbo. The operating length of the whole line is 310.386 km, of which the newly-built line is 301.313 km. There are 10 stations including Nantong West, Zhangjiagang, Changshu West, Suzhou north, FenHu, Jiaxing north, Jiaxing South, Haiyan West, Cixi, ZhuangQiao, and etc., with a design speed of 350 km / h.

At present, the bridge project from Nantong West to Zhangjiagang section of the railway and ballast laying of Shanghai Sutong Yangtze River highway railway bridge are constructed by Yantong high speed railway project; the 13.6 km project of Zhangjiagang Station connecting Sujiachang and adjacent sections is constructed by Jiangsu South Yangtze River intercity railway project.

Previously, some railway experts believed that the Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo railway will be a "golden line", an important intercity channel of the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration and an important link of the urban system of "one core, five circles and four belts" in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration. When the railway is completed and opened to traffic, it will take only about one hour from Ningbo to Shanghai without bypassing Hangzhou by the high-speed rail, but directly across Hangzhou Bay the rail track will run up to Shanghai via Jiaxing. In this way, the five "trillion cities" of Jiangsu and Zhejiang will join the one hour traffic circle of Shanghai.

For Lianyungang, it will be connected to the railway via Yantong railway. After the completion of the project, the space-time distance to Zhejiang, Southern Jiangsu and other places will be greatly shortened, especially the distance between Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou metropolitan area and Hangzhou metropolitan area. With the continuous integration of Shanghai-Hangzhou- Suzhou-Ningbo metropolitan area, the railway will also bring more and more "sense of achievement" to Lianyungang City, and the high-speed rail network will further connect our city to the vast hinterland on both sides of Hangzhou Bay.
