Journalists learned from the Municipal Housing and Construction Department that this year the city would add 100 hectares of new gardens and green space, and upgrade and renovate 50 hectares of green space with a focus on promoting the construction of Xinpu Phosphate Mine Ecological Green Park, Economic Research and Development Center Park of Huaguo Mountain Headquarters, and Hulu Mountain Park, creating 20 “small and exquisite, small and beautiful” pocket parks, so that citizens can really “see the green at the corner, go out and enter the park”.

Yesterday morning, journalists saw at the construction site of Yujingyuan Pocket Park that workers were laying lawns and planting flowers and shrubs such as hibiscus and crabapple, with landscape pavilions arranged in an orderly manner. The person in charge of the project construction site told journalists that the south side of Yujinglongwan Housing Estate in Haizhou District was originally a semi-degraded closed green space. In order to upgrade and reconstruct it, the Housing and Construction Department of Haizhou District cleared the poorly growing ground cover plants and slightly widened the narrow garden path. At present, the project progress has been completed by about 70%. A pocket park where people can “walk in and have fun” is about to emerge.

Duan Haoyang, the person in charge of the construction site of the Yujing Garden Pocket Park project, introduced that two fitness squares and two children's entertainment squares had been newly built. Large trees such as Nata oak and Chinese tallow were added, which were chosen to bloom alternately. Generally, when the four seasons come, a variety of flowers can also be seen in addition to lush greenery.

In recent years, the expectations of Lianyungang citizens for green space have been continuously increasing, and people hope to increase accessible and experiential green park areas. This year, the Housing and Construction Department of Haizhou District has selected vacant land around major streets, transportation nodes and residential areas for the construction of pocket parks.

Huang Guiling from the Greening Department of the Housing and Urban Rural Development Bureau of Haizhou District introduced that 6 million yuan was to be invested to renovate 8 pocket parks, including Yujing Garden, Qindongmen Street Pocket Park and Yue Garden, with a green area of about 3 hectares. At present, Yujing Garden and Qindongmen Street Pocket Park are under construction, and all pocket park construction tasks will be completed in June.

According to the plan, this year the municipal department in charge of landscaping and greening will adhere to the people-oriented approach, accurately expand and open shared green space, carry out park construction based on local conditions, continue to implement the systematic construction of pocket parks, and strengthen the functional support of activity venues suitable for aging people and children. In addition, our city will further promote the opening and sharing of parks and green space, expand the functions of parks and green space, promote the organic integration of ecological space and public life, and enhance the "enjoyment" effect of parks and green space through the transformation of urban understory space and the improvement of facilities and equipment.
