Two locations in Lianyungang have been selected in the first batch of 789 important place names for terrestrial wildlife habitats released by China

In order to strengthen the protection of terrestrial wildlife populations and their habitats, China has released the first batch of 789 important place names for terrestrial wildlife habitats, protecting 82.36% of the national key protected terrestrial wildlife species.

This is the news¡¡the journalist¡¡learned from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration on the 20th. According to the relevant person in charge of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the first batch of important habitats for terrestrial wildlife in China are divided into six categories: areas for the survival, reproduction of precious and endangered species, areas for the distribution of wildlife clusters¡¡and¡¡etc., involving 31 provinces, regions and cities, and covering 565¡¡habitats,¡¡reproduction areas and migration sites¡¡of national first and second class¡¡key protected wildlife species.¡¡One hundred and twenty-seven¡¡mammals, 339 birds, 62 amphibians and reptiles,¡¡and 37 insects¡¡are included.

In accordance with the requirements of the Wildlife Protection Law, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration organized experts to collect information and data obtained from various surveys of wild animal resources in China over the past 20 years. They classified and sorted out the natural distribution characteristics, population activity patterns and biological learning of wild animals in China, and then formulated the Interim Measures for the Recognition of Important Habitats¡¡of Terrestrial Wildlife¡¡which includes the recognition standards, evaluation procedures, and makes¡¡technical specifications for archive information, scope delineation, naming rules¡¡and¡¡etc. After analyzing and evaluating one by one, the first batch of important place names for terrestrial wildlife habitats were selected.

"Next, we will further strengthen the investigation, monitoring and evaluation of areas where the living environment of terrestrial wildlife continues¡¡to improve but are not listed. Those that meet the relevant conditions will be listed one after another." said the person in charge.

In recent years, China has built a natural reserve system with national parks as the main body, nature reserves as the foundation and various types of natural parks as supplements, incorporating a large number of wildlife habitats into the protection scope, effectively maintaining the safety of wildlife habitats and promoting their continuous optimization, which has played a huge role in saving precious and endangered wildlife and maintaining the development of wildlife populations.

It is reported¡¡that the important habitats for migratory birds in the coastal wetlands of Ganyu¡¯s Haizhou Bay in Lianyungang, Jiangsu, and the important habitats for migratory birds in the Linhong River Estuary Wetland in Lianyungang, Jiangsu have been selected for the first batch of¡¡place name list.
