Forty kilometers of rainwater and sewage diversion network will be newly added in Lianyungang

On March 6th, construction workers were busy working on South Yuzhou Road in Haizhou District, intending to install large-diameter rainwater pipes to promote the true separation of rainwater and sewage in the area. According to the Municipal Housing and Construction Department, the South Yuzhou Road project is only a part of the urban rainwater and sewage diversion projects in our city. This year, the city will implement 47 new rainwater and sewage diversion projects, and build no less than 40 kilometers of urban sewage pipelines. The centralized collection rate of urban domestic sewage will increase by more than 10% compared to the previous year. Within this year, an additional 40000 tons/day of sewage treatment capacity will be added too, and the utilization rate of tail water regeneration will not be less than 25%.

In Haizhou District, in addition to the South Yuzhou Road rainwater and sewage diversion project section, there are also 15 sections of road rainwater and sewage diversion projects such as West Yanhe Road, Haiqing Road and Yanxi Road. Currently, 8 project sections have been under construction or completed. The South Yuzhou Road rainwater and sewage diversion project will be completed this month, and the remaining 7 sections of road rainwater and sewage diversion projects will be gradually under way in the near future. The corresponding rainwater and sewage diversion projects have been under construction in an orderly manner on Limin Road in Donghai County, Guanhe Road in Guannan County, and other related road sections in the built-up areas of various counties and districts. According to the principle of appropriate advancement, our city will also focus on promoting the construction of sewage treatment plants in the city and counties, accelerating the completion of new landmark renovation and qualitative treatment demonstration. The urban area, Ganyu District, Donghai County and Guanyun County will further improve their sewage treatment capacity, with an additional 40000 tons/day of sewage treatment capacity added within the year.

Our city will continue to improve the collection system of domestic sewage pipeline network to address the prominent issues of ecological livability. According to the principle of prioritizing urgent needs, we will accelerate the resolution of prominent problems such as direct discharge or overflow of sewage and insufficient sewage treatment capacity. Ganyu District, Guanyun, Donghai and Guannan counties will achieve full coverage of urban sewage networks in built-up areas, basic construction and effective use of smart water and geographic information systems of drainage network, improve the inspection and evaluation and supervision mechanism for sewage network operation and maintenance, and implement specialized operation and maintenance of sewage network pumping stations. At the same time, we will also build tail water ecological wetlands according to local conditions, vigorously improve the utilization rate of reclaimed water, and continue to promote the resource utilization of tail water from sewage treatment plants.

In addition, the integrated sewage treatment of urban and rural areas in relevant counties and districts has also been strengthened to ensure effective improvement of the ecological environment in mountainous areas, key urban rivers and etc. Among them, Haizhou District will focus on improving the rainwater and sewage diversion in villages around the Jinping Mountain area, and promote the rainwater and sewage or clean sewage diversion project in gullies; Lianyun District will focus on completing key tasks of the rainwater and sewage diversion in the north part behind Yuntai Mountain, and the original inefficient sewage interception facilities in the gullies will be closed or dismantled; the Municipal Development Zone will accelerate the improvement of rainwater and sewage diversion in Chaoyang area, Furonggou area, Jiangning Industrial Park, import and export processing area and Jiuhe area while closing river interception facilities; Ganyu District will speed up the municipal rainwater and sewage diversion on both sides of Qingkou River, Shawang River, and Zhuji River; Guannan County has a dense river network and the county will focus on implementing sewage interception pipes along the river and testing the sewage interception pipe network with concealed pipes and culverts this year. Comprehensive treatment will also be carried out for river water backflow and groundwater infiltration.

In recent years, our city has continued to improve the collection system of urban sewage pipelines. Last year alone, 110 kilometers of urban sewage pipelines were newly renovated, and rainwater and sewage diversion renovations have been completed in more than 100 residential areas. The second stage of Phase II of Chengnan Sewage Treatment Plant and the third phase of Dapu Sewage Treatment Plant have been completed and put into operation, with an additional sewage treatment capacity of 70000 tons per day. The centralized collection and treatment rate of urban sewage in the city and counties has achieved a 10% growth target for three consecutive years.
