Detailed plan of Huaguo Mountain Scenic Spot approved by the state and Immortals’ wonderland in Journey to the West reappeared in 8 tourist attractions

Recently, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration issued a document officially approving the Detailed Plan for Huaguo Mountain Scenic Spot of Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area, marking a new stage in the protection and utilization of Huaguo Mountain Scenic Spot.

Throughout history, the Huaguo Mountain Scenic Spot has been represented by the renowned classic culture and ternary culture at home and abroad, combined with the natural landscapes of strange peaks and rocks, crisscrossing gullies and abundant streams. It has become the most well-known and influential scenic spot with the most abundant resource and the most concentrated tourist contents in the Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area, and it is a concentrated reflection of the famous mountain culture in the scenic area. The total area of the Huaguo Mountain Scenic Spot determined in the Plan is 75.39 square kilometers, with a core scenic area of 26.32 square kilometers.

Highlighting the characteristics of Journey to the West and reconstructing the Immortals’ wonderland. As is known to all, the cultural landscape characteristics of Journey to the West are the most charming and attractive contents of the Huaguo Mountain Scenic Spot. “The Plan will integrate and enhance the existing theme landscape resources, forming various tourism activities with different regions, different time series and different feelings, such as experiencing the Immortals’ wonderland (Huaguo Mountain, Water Curtain Cave, Tide Control Pillar and etc.), exploring famous works and allusions (Tuan Yuan Palace, the stone left by Nuwa, 72 Caves and etc.), Ming and Qing cultural exchanges (Wu Cheng'en Memorial Park, Ming and Qing Literature Research and Exchange Museum), making the characteristic tour of Journey to the West more diverse and in-depth.” Yu Xiang, the head and senior planner of the Administrative Approval Bureau of the Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area Management Committee, introduced. Therefore, the Plan proposes to create 8 tourist attractions, including Journey to the West Realm, Yunv Peak, Yuwan, Donglei, Dasheng Lake, Danxia, Taibai Stream and Yunlong Stream, as well as 113 landscape units (including 8 primary units and 27 secondary units).

Building mountains and waterscapes and improving resource quality. The mutual reliance and borrowing of mountain and water landscapes are the foundation of traditional Chinese landscape architecture, and the Water Curtain Cave of Huaguo Mountain is also a classic summary of the combination of mountain and water in the scenic area. The Plan will further improve and enrich the water landscape. On the one hand, professional technical measures are taken to ensure the stability of water quality and quantity in the Water Curtain Cave, highlighting its characteristics; on the other hand, integrating landscape tourism routes and incorporating Yuwan Longtan, Peacock Lake and Nine-Dragon Plank Road into the existing main tourism routes allows visitors to fully enjoy the rich and colorful landscape resources of the scenic area.

Linking up tourist routes and connecting to characteristic scenic spots. By planning, the problem of a single tourist route in the scenic area has been thoroughly solved, and the walking and sightseeing routes to each tourist area have been improved to form a circular network, which not only connects most of the landscape resources in the scenic area and facilitates tourist activities, but also reduces backtracking, improves tourist efficiency, and makes the development of the scenic area more reasonable and orderly. The Plan points out that through the improvement of transportation connections between the front and back mountains, tea gardens, fruit forests, reservoirs and other resources in areas such as Hind Gate and Foregate will be fully utilized to drive rural revitalization, allowing tourists to enjoy sightseeing, working, picking, processing, recreation and entertainment. Multi-dimensional tourism fun can be experienced.

How to make scenic spots better to visit? It is reported that on the one hand, the Plan has constructed a car tour system of "One Center with Four Lines" with 11 transfer stations arranged around Yunv Peak. At the same time, it is also explicitly proposed to renovate the suspended cableway to enhance its safety, aesthetics, comfort and transportation capacity. Six hiking and sightseeing routes with cultural, landscape and plant characteristics are to be built, with an additional trail length of approximately 30 kilometers. Moreover, the Plan further improves the layout of the four-level tourism service facilities. High level service facilities are equipped with beds, which can provide more comprehensive tourism services. Low level service facilities are generally located near major scenic spots, making it convenient to serve tourists nearby.
