In 2022, the city made constant external people-to-people exchanges via online and offline means. Efforts had been made to send congratulatory letters to the new Ambassador of Kazakhstan to China, invite the Secretary- General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization to shoot congratulatory videos for the operation of the China- Kazakhstan (Lianyungang) Logistics Base Dispatch Center, receive the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai for inspection and visit in Lianyungang, and strengthen regular contacts with the embassies and consulates general of Japan, South Korea, Central Asia in China and the SCO Secretariat. The city participated in the “Belt and Road” International Sister Cities Exchange Week in Jiangsu Province, and invited the mayors or government leaders of five sister cities to deliver video speeches. The 30th Anniversary of the Sister City Ties Establishment between Lianyungang and Mokpo City, South Korea, Lianyungang-Mokpo, South Korea Online Friendly Exchanges Meeting, Lianyungang-Saga, Japan Online Friendly Exchanges Meeting and other online and offline events were held. Lianyun district and Wando county in South Korea officially established sister city relationship. Lianyungang Foreign Languages High School established sister school relations with Tamatia Senior High School in Napier, New Zealand, and Lianyungang Xugou Primary Education Group also established sister school relations with a local secondary school in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. One foreigner in Lianyungang was awarded the title of the 2022 Jiangsu Province People's Envoy of Friendship.
